After studying for an Engineering degree at Nottingham University, a somewhat misguided Dan Hill jumped on the gravy train with many of his contemporaries and headed to London to seek his fortune. It was during periods of reflection whilst sat at his desk in the City bank where he worked that Dan dreamed up New Red Furniture and sought to turn this dream into reality. There followed an intense period of study with a master craftsman in Devon and then some time for Dan to hone his woodworking and design skills.
Over 10 years later, New Red Furniture and Interiors is an established business in The Mumbles on the edge of the Gower Peninsula where Dan grew up. During this time New Red has worked on a wide variety of cabinet making and joinery projects. More recently we have focussed the business on what we enjoy and consequently what we're best at. We also adopted a cat!
We strive to produce efficiently designed furniture that derives its aesthetic from its functional form. We believe it should compliment its surroundings rather than being fussy or overbearing. Our furniture is all hand made in our workshop by skilled craftsmen using timber from sustainable sources, giving it an integrity and provenance which is hard to find in a mass produced world.
New Red has been fortunate to employ the services of some talented craftsmen in true "journeyman" tradition, bringing their skills from as far afield as France and South Africa. We are always pleased to hear from skilled craftsmen and women seeking new opportunities.
